Lessons Learned...

Last weekend, we had an experience that we will never ever forget, a tragic and shocking experience that would surely shape and strengthen every Filipino.

It was Saturday, 26 September, most of us were staying at home and enjoying the cool, rainy weather. This supposedly restful and relaxing day became too stressful and tiring when the skies started pouring rain heavily and non-stop (due to strong typhoon Ondoy) which caused flood, not an ordinary flood, flood high enough to cover houses, high enough to wash away living creatures (human beings, animals, plants), vehicles, and eventually wash away dreams.
Our house was not spared from getting flooded but gratefully, flood was not too high (only just almost knee-high). We are thankful because our rented house is situated in a relatively high area and we have a 2nd floor, where we could stay dry and still feel comfortable as compared to others whose homes were literally submerged with flood and mud and they had no where to go.
In every experience/situation, good or bad, we have to learn something from it. Whatever we learn from those experiences, we can use in the future to make us stronger and wiser.

From this experience, I learned many pointers that I will apply when the time comes that we will build our very own home. I enumerated some pointers below;

(i) we should hunt for a lot and/or house situated in a high area
(2) we have to make sure that the area is not prone to flood and earthquake
(3) aside from getting a lot situated in a high area, the house itself should have a thick, strong and high foundation
(4) electric sockets should be installed atleast 2 feet above the floor
(5) the house should have a 2nd floor
(6) the staircase should be free from any obstruction so appliances and furnitures can be transferred to the 2nd floor easily
(7) appliances and furnitures should have a wooden/metal "stand"
(8) the circuit breaker should serve its purpose
(9) built-in cabinets should be put up atleast 3 feet from the floor
(10) every plan, every dream, every goal should be lifted up to God so that everything will be blessed

Is this high enough?;)
As of this moment, my heart is filled with gratitude to God for protecting us, keeping us safe in times of disasters and from always blessing us under any circumstance.

To God be the glory!!!
